Homemade Sweet Sauce

Recipe: Homemade Sweet Sauce自制甜酱
Yield: ½ cup
Ingredients
Ingredients A
  • 150ml water
  • 1/8 tsp. sesame oil
  • 1 TBSP hoisin sauce
  • 2 TBSP medium sweet dark soy sauce (kecap manis)
  • 2 tsp. sugar or to taste
Ingredients B
  • 2 tsp. tapioca starch or corn starch
  • 2 tsp. water
Measurements: tsp. = teaspoon | TBSP = tablespoon
Preparation
  • 1. Add all ingredients A in a saucepan. Mix ingredients B in a small bowl.
  • 2. Bring ingredients A to a boil on med heat. Turn heat to low when it bubbles. Gradually stir in mixture B to thicken the sauce. Keep stirring until sauce reaches your desired consistency. Turn off the heat and remove sauce from heat.
  • Notes
  • Hoisin sauce can be replaced with ½ TBSP light soy sauce + ½ TBSP oyster sauce + 1/8 tsp. sesame oil + 1½ TBSP sugar or to taste.
  • Sweet sauce can be used for chee cheong fun, steamed yam cake etc.
